What top founders protect on their calendar (it isn't the morning)
The one block of time that decides how much gets built.
Morning routines get a lot of attention. The time of day matters far less than one thing: a long block where nobody can reach you.
Why long blocks win
Hard work (writing, designing, planning, selling to a difficult customer) takes 20–30 minutes just to get into. A day broken into 30-minute pieces never gets there.
How to build your block
- Pick two or three blocks of 2–3 hours per week. Put them on your calendar like meetings.
- Decide the task the night before. Starting the block by choosing what to do wastes it.
- Remove the exits. Phone in another room, notifications off, one browser tab.
- End with a note. Write the next step so tomorrow's block starts fast.
What to protect it from
Mostly from yourself: email, "quick" messages and small tasks that feel urgent. Batch them into one short window after the block.
Try it for four weeks and compare what you finish.
